Cheating

Well, that got your attention didn't it. I don't mean that kind of cheating!! Lol
I mean keto cheating. I think the hardest part of being on any kind of diet is the thought that you can't. I HATE it when someone says I can't. My knee jerk reaction to the phrase I can't is "YES, I CAN!!"
Well, we were very clean keto for the first probably 5 months. Then at least Terry had lost so much weight, he asked the question. "How bad would it be if we had a cheat night?"
"Define cheat night" was my response.
He said, "Onion Rings"

"Oh, those!" My mouth watered.
"Um, well, let me look up the carbs in onion rings" (me)
51 carbs in 18 onion rings.
Not too bad if you only eat four or so.
So, four onion rings would be just under 12 carbs. Definitely a cheat but not as bad as I had been thinking.
So, we got an order of onion rings and split them.
They say if you go over 20 - 30 carbs a day you get kicked out of ketosis. And when you're out of ketosis it takes 48 hours to get back in.
So, a cheat with a cost?
But, oddly enough we had a cheat and then went back to clean eating and low and behold, we continued to lose pounds and sizes.
So for the last couple of months, about every other week we have a cheat. Here are some of our favorite cheats
Onion Rings - of course
Sushi rolls - sashimi is just fine but we both LOVE sushi rolls.
Burgers with normal, not keto buns (though since we found keto buns we don't tend do to this one)
Flatbreads from Café Jules (sadly temporarily closed for now)
What I believe is this makes it sustainable for us. Especially when we get to where we don't want to lose any more weight finding a balance will be important!
So, find your balance and enjoy!
Now I need an onion ring......
