I'm not a huge fan of sweet alcoholic beverages but come Christmas time I need at least one glass of Egg Nog. But can this be keto friendly?

Sure can!

Luckily all pure forms of alcohol like whiskey, gin, tequila, rum, brandy and vodka are carb free.

But the kicker is the mix, usually egg nog has a fair amount of sugar in it and thus carbs. In general a cup of egg nog has around 20 grams of carbs. Ouch!

But here is a keto friendly egg nog!!

Egg Nog Recipe

2 Cups Whole Milk (Or 2 cups unsweetened nut milk of choice*)

2 Cups heavy cream (or full fat coconut milk*)

1 Cinnamon Stick

1 Teaspoon nutmeg

6 Egg yolks, whisked gently

1/2 cup erythritol

2 Teaspoons vanilla extract

Dark Rum, bourbon or vodka to taste

This is very similar to making custard. Heat the milk, cream, cinnamon stick, nutmeg and erythritol together whisking gently to ensure the sugar melts. When the sugar is all melted and the liquid is bubbling all along the edge take off the heat and slowly, slowly drizzle into the egg yolk mixture while whisking constantly. The liquid should thicken a bit, not a ton. Let the nog cool completely. I usually put it in the fridge for a couple of hours before serving. I like serving it with some crushed ice and topped with a dusting of more nutmeg.

This recipe makes approximately 4 servings of egg nog.

*If you wish to make this dairy free

Enjoy!
